Session 1

Monitor Calibration is the most important step in implementing color management. We will take an in depth look at how a monitor works and how to perfect the color output. We’ll start with viewing conditions and why they are important. We will look at the steps to calibrate and profile monitors. There are many methods and equipment packages available, we’ll compare them and look at how the choose the right one for you. We will goes though the procedure and look at how to test the results.

Session 2

Scanners and Digital Cameras. We’ll look at how to test, calibrate and profile scanners and digital cameras. We will look at tests that can be performed to determine if our scanners are consistent and predictable in their output. We’ll look at the procedure to correctly profile a scanner and how to test the results. We’ll explore the tools available and how to use them. Exploring the techniques to profiling can lead to a better method of scanning and how to best use our devices. Profiling digital cameras is a much debated subject. We’ll look at what works and what doesn’t.

Session 3

Perhaps the most misunderstood topic is how to get the correct color from a printer. We will take an in depth look at what factors affect the color from a printer and what can be expected. We’ll look at the various types of printers, their characteristics, similarities and differences. We’ll examine calibration procedures and tests to determine the best settings. Creating a custom profile is a must. We’ll look at how to do it and the various paths to take. Should I buy my own equipment to make profiles? We’ll look at what’s available and when it make’s sense to purchase it. We will go though the steps involved with actually creating a profile using a popular package of hardware and software. Once we have a profile, we’ll look at how to use it. Lastly we will take a brief look at the mysterious world of CMYK files and printer RIPS.
