Session 1

Here is where it all begins. We will learn the difference between digital imaging and analog imaging. We’ll cover vector images vs bitmapped images. What is a Pixel and where do they come from? We’ll learn what Spatial Resolution is. We will unlock the secrets of pixel size, file size and image size. How do I know what resolution an image needs to be to make a great print? We will learn how to predict the results. Finally, we will look at Brightness Resolution and how it affects quality. These are absolute fundamentals we need to master for digital imaging. This session is recommended as a prerequisite to all the other sessions.

Session 2

In this session we will dig into Color Theory. We’ll start with what things are necessary to have color. We’ll learn the properties of light and all the various colors of light. We’ll learn about the visible spectrum of light and how the eye sees color. Next it’s additive vs subtractive color and how they are related. we’ll explore how each is perceived and why they exist. We will explore the different forms of color measurement and how they are used. We’ll finish with Color Spaces, what they are and the mysteries they unlock.

Session 3

We will begin with what is the best tools for color measurement. The human eye has serious limitations. We will learn what those are and the tricks our eyes play on us. Then we will explore input and output devices. We will find out how digital cameras, scanners and printers work and how to determine the best one for your needs. We’ll explore a few simple tests to determine the best device for our needs. We will wrap it up with a look at the relationship between PPI and LPI and how to communicate with other agencies.
